The premium rooms at the Corbett River Creek Resort recreate the charm and excitement of adventure through natural material textures and colour schemes, alluding to the Jim Corbett National Park around. A modern and minimalist language of the furniture allows one to focus on the essentials.
The specially curated paintings and photographs provide serendipitous glimpses into the jungle. Subtle references to native animals such as the elephant, tiger, eagle and deer lend unique themes to the rooms, while the Maharaja suite stands to amaze guests with its four poster bed and the Jacuzzi fitted toilet emblazoned with shimmering mosaic tiles.
The resort is located in a picturesque valley near the Jim Corbett National Park, and thus one of the key directions of the design was to bring that unique vocabulary of nature here into the spatial experience. The design started with a visit to the site and keenly observing the surroundings and the flora and fauna around Marchula. There were stories that the locals and resort staff recited about birds, snakes, elephants, deers, tigers and so on. This gave us a lot of material to begin our design with. We knew that the resort rooms had to echo these stories about nature, and fuel the wonder and curiosity of the unknown.
The second important take away was about the operations of the resort and design language of the existing buildings. We walked through the entire process of how a guest is received and then how she/he is introduced to the rooms. It was pertinent that all guest services were easily accessible, and that all elements of the interiors require lower maintenance.
We tried to bring in wood and rough cut stone texture on the walls, and putting them up in contrast with refined customised animal themed wallpapers. The furniture was imagined with a comfortable, laid back and safari like feel. Even in the toilets we tried to bring in some outdoor spirit by using gravel from the nearby river bed.
The paintings in the rooms were a primary expression of the unique themes of each of the rooms. They were developed by the artist from a deep understanding of the animals and their surroundings. These paintings and the photographs in the rooms were curated such that to enable a connection with the stories and folklore around these animals.
